Asmar Equestrian’s new limited-edition Italian leather collection elevates and inspires

Equestrianism influences fashion in many ways. Gucci’s infamous green and red striped grosgrain webbing was inspired by the girth on a saddle, Dior’s Cruise 2019 show had horses walking the runway alongside models in one of Europe’s largest stables, and it was the horse, who was actually the first customer for luxury brand Hermès, now coveted for their iconic bags, belts, and scarves, but known 150 years ago for producing handcrafted saddles and harnesses.

Yet equally as important to equestrian fashion are the leather bags and accessories. Asmar Equestrian’s new limited-edition Italian leather collection is a refreshing nod to the quality and timeless nature of equestrian tack. Founder Noel Asmar is known for her effortlessly clean, feminine, elegant aesthetic and she stays true to that concept with her new line of leather bags and accessories which will debut in spring 2019.

Equestrians have always had discerning taste when it comes to their horse’s equipment, with tack that is often handmade from the finest leather and materials and designed to last a lifetime. “I draw inspiration from the beautiful construction, feel and quality of a well-made saddle, bridle or halter,” stated Asmar, who believes that one’s accessories should also be thoughtful investment pieces designed to last a lifetime.  “My goal is to create accessories that inspire, delight and become a welcome extension of an equestrian’s life. Accessories have the ability to transform your look and they can define your style just as significantly as your clothes,” she goes on to say.

Known for marrying her equestrian background with current fashion trends, Asmar’s limited-edition line of Italian leather accessories includes functional backpacks, sleek belt purses and reversible belts that will capture the eye of even the most selective customer. “What we see on the runway typically dictates the trends we’ll wear in the future and I like to take that and make it work for equestrians,” said Asmar. Her new Saffiano Belt Purse is the equestrian’s answer to the hands-free trend that has proven, through the reemergence of cross body bags and fanny packs, it’s not going away anytime soon. Designed to fit both wide and narrow belts and accommodate larger cellphones, and with a secure zippered section to protect cards and cash, the Saffiano Belt purse is designed for the equestrian lifestyle and to transition from life in and out of the ring.

Thoughtful, functional details have always been a mainstay in Asmar’s designs. “Fashion is important but equally as important is what can the piece do for me?” she said. “What problems can it solve, how does it improve my life and make it easier?” From hidden security pockets to whip holders, each and every time someone uses an Asmar piece, they’re reminded of how thoughtful the designs are.

They’re also reminded of the craftsmanship. Handcrafted in Italy, Asmar chose the finest textured Italian Saffiano leather for this new collection. Used exclusively by Prada for many decades, Saffiano leather is famous for its diagonal lines and beautiful cross-hatch pattern which are pressed into the wax coating of the leather giving it a slight sheen and a unique, sophisticated texture that also affords exceptional durability and stain resistance.

“Leather is one of those unique materials that tends to get more interesting and beautiful over time and with wear,” observed Asmar. “I hope these new pieces will become a mainstay in our customers’ closets and tack trunks, for many, many years.”
